There’s not a purse puppy among them.
In West Palm Beach, we prefer big dogs, with one exception, according to the American Kennel Club which just released the list of America’s most popular dogs by regions.
According to the AKC, Labrador retrievers were West Palm Beach’s top dogs in 2014, pushing last year’s favorite, German shepherds, down to number two.
Golden retrievers, the blonde babes of the canine world, came in number three in West Palm.
Last year, poodles and that favorite of people with doggie strollers -Yorkshire terriers -were 4th and 5th on the local list. This year, they’ve both been booted aside.
Macho Rottweilers moved up to number four.
We love a smiling face like this enough to make rottweilers the fourth most popular dog locally. (Post file photo)
Also trending down (no, that’s not a short leg joke) are dachsunds, landing out of the national top ten for the first time in 30 years, at number 11.
Gaining in popularity locally and across the country are French bulldogs, our fifth most beloved local breed locally.
Nationally, the pudgy little bulldogs are number nine, their highest rankings in nearly 100 years.

And, we might add, judging by the photo to the right, a killer fashion sense.
