Entrepreneur and professional dog trainer Josh Pitts has taken his love for dog training and channeled it into Clicker Plus. Pitts is a firm believer in clicker training but noticed that many dog owners were inclined to leave their clicker at home when taking their pets out. The reason is clickers can be cumbersome when you are also juggling a leash, treats, and other pet accessories.

Diana Marahrens, a certified pet dog trainer, is joining forces with groomers and veterinarians in the Williamsburg area to provide behavior modification and training solutions for families and their pets in the New Year.

Marahrens has 10 years of experience working with pet dogs, cats, and their owners. Her services include seminars, private lessons, small group classes and in-home training, and says the new partnership with groomers and veterinarians will serve as another educational opportunity.

Four new dogs have been declared “recognized breeds” by the American Kennel Club (AKC).

The announcement came on Wednesday that the Spanish water dog (a farm and fishing dog), the Bergamasco (an Italian sheepdog with a matted coat), the Boerboel (a South African watchdog), and the Cirneco dell’Etna (a Sicilian rabbit-hunting breed) will now be eligible to compete in any AKC-sanctioned dog show. 

Criteria includes having several hundred of the dog breed nationwide.
