Many people adore large dog breeds such as Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds for their energy, athleticism and versatility. But big breeds aren’t for everyone. If you live in an apartment, have small children or aren’t strong enough to handle a canine who weighs more than 70 pounds, you may want to consider a small dog.
The announcement came on Wednesday that the Spanish water dog (a farm and fishing dog), the Bergamasco (an Italian sheepdog with a matted coat), the Boerboel (a South African watchdog), and the Cirneco dell’Etna (a Sicilian rabbit-hunting breed) will now be eligible to compete in any AKC-sanctioned dog show.
Criteria includes having several hundred of the dog breed nationwide.
As the weather gets colder, one creative way to warm up is to snuggle with a cuddly canine. So, next time there’s a chill in the air, build a fire, grab a blanket and get cozy with one of these affectionate breeds!
Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that dogs are individuals and not all Bichons and Great Danes will want to snuggle with you.
