Dog training that makes you AND your dog happy with Natures Feed in Spring … – Northwest Herald

Jennalee Bee will tell you she’s really more of a people trainer than a dog trainer.

“I’m here to train you to train your dog,” said Bee, who owns Bow Wow Know How.

Bee is certified through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers and the Karen Pryor Academy. She’s also an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

“I have no more than 6 dogs in my class because I want one-on-one time with each person,” Bee said. They all want something different out of the class and I want to be able to help them succeed.”

Bee uses only force-free training, which is different from conventional compulsion-based training.

“It’s really about building a relationship with your dog,” she said. “When I’m working with a dog their tail is wagging, they’re an active participant in the training.   Whereas, with compulsion-based training the dog is trying to sit still and not get into trouble by not offering different behaviors. It’s more fun for the dog to interact. It allows you to play with your dog and have a good time.”

Bee is an advocate of positive reinforcement.

“I try to teach dog training like you would raising a kid,” she added. “We ignore the unwanted behaviors and redirect them back to good behavior and reinforce it with treats and praise.”
