Basic Dog Training Course Available Starting Sept. 15
The Kay-9 Dog Training Club will offer a seven-week course of basic dog training beginning Sept. 15. Interested dog owners need to go to their veterinarians to get the required form showing their dogs have had the necessary immunizations.
Dog owners need to send the form signed by their vet to the Kay-9 Dog Training Club, P.O. Box 2746, Ponca City, OK 74602. Enclose the payment of $50. In the event the dog has been in a previous class there will be a $10 credit.
Pre-registration in strongly advised as class size is limited to 25 dogs. Class times are 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. on Monday nights. Applications will be accepted in the order they are received. Classes are held at the National Guard Armory, 1015 West South Avenue.
Obedience classes will teach dog owners to train their own dog. They will learn to use the correct training collar and perform various commands such as sit, stay, come, down and heel. Your dog will gain confidence in himself and in you. You and your dog will get to know each other better and bond more closely. Dogs who enroll in the class will have the opportunity to become certified through the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Program. Dogs are tested in every day simulated situations in a relaxed and non-competitive atmosphere. The program rewards dogs that have the training and demeanor to be reliable family and community members in good standing. Dogs are respected community members when they have been trained to be mannerly at home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs. All dogs, regardless of the breed, are embraced and welcomed in the Canine Good Citizen program. The first class on Sept. 15 is at 7 p.m. This is for informational purposes only and dogs do not need to come.
