NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – A man is behind bars after he attempted to hide from police in the wrong backyard.

Jax, a German Shepherd, is not afraid of anything except thunder.

He went through training to become a K-9 officer with an Oklahoma police department, but his fear of storms has held him back from joining the force.

About 10 percent of Americans are allergic to dogs and have reactions ranging from itchy eyes to asthma attacks.

Dog dander is the primary culprit that sets off the allergic responses.

Although no dog is 100 percent hypoallergenic, several breeds shed little, produce less dander and are less likely to cause allergic reactions.

Tromping through the snow one spring, Greg Eckley’s dog turned around, raced uphill to a stand of trees and started digging.

Eckley stood and watched his Labrador for a minute. By the time he trudged up to him, only the dog’s behind stuck in the air.

He coaxed Buck, the dog, out of the hole and saw what he was after.
