Kennel club hosts dog training center open house: Scott County Kennel Club will host an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the club’s dog training facility at 2002 W. River Drive, Davenport.

There will be demonstrations in agility, obedience, rally and conformation. Guests are encouraged to bring their own dogs and have some fun on the agility equipment.

Lexie Dreyfuss took Chloe, a black Labrador retriever, everywhere for 18 months. The 17-year-old junior had the dog lay by her side in class at La Cañada High School, walk through the aisles at Ralphs and resist other furry friends while volunteering at Petco.

And on Saturday, months of sniffing through La Cañada paid off when Chloe graduated from Guide Dogs of America with her new handler, Giselle Hartman, by her side.

In the past, there was no way to identify the genetics of mixed breed dogs except by their markings and behavior. However, with the advent of dog breed DNA testing kits, owners can now solve the mystery of their pet's heritage.

Dog breed DNA tests can be ordered from many different companies and the reliability of the results may hinge on how many different dog breeds the companies have in their DNA database.
