CINCINNATI - When I talk to pet owners about feeding as the form of training, with food chew or activity toys, they often are surprised. Putting food in a bowl and walking away is such a natural thing to do. 

However, let’s think about that. When food is placed in a bowl, often the dog either gobbles it up quickly or will leave it in the bowl to graze on throughout the day.

New Hunting Dog Breeds Recognized

The American Kennel Club has officially recognized four new breeds of dog, including two hunting breeds, hiking the AKC's roster of recognized breeds to 184. The new breeds are the Spanish Water Dog, Cirneco dell'Etna, Bergamasco and Boerboel.

DuPage County: Learn about Blackwell facilities

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is offering open houses of the archery range and Urban Stream Research Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville.

At the archery range, participants will get an introduction to this popular sport and find out about the three different portions of the district’s range.
